What is the RESCO model for solar?

RESCO stands for Renewable Energy Service Company. In a common RESCO arrangement, a project developer invests in and owns the solar system, then sells the generated electricity to the customer under agreed contract terms—often through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

The exact ownership, tariff, contract period, maintenance responsibilities, grid arrangements and customer obligations depend on the final project structure. Natural Power can help businesses evaluate technical requirements and understand the project-development steps.

Support across the solar project lifecycle

From early feasibility to project handover, build a project plan around your site, energy demand and commercial objectives.

HOW WE DEVELOP A PROJECT

A clear, step-by-step RESCO process

Every project is different. These stages provide a practical framework for evaluating and delivering a solar project.

1

Initial Consultation

Understand your facility, electricity usage, objectives and project timeline.
2

Feasibility & Site Study

Review site conditions, solar potential, technical constraints and grid access.
3

Design & Commercial Review

Develop a concept design and review the proposed RESCO/PPA structure.
4

Approvals & Execution

Coordinate required approvals, procurement, installation and grid arrangements.
5

Commissioning & Support

Test the system, commission it and confirm agreed monitoring and O&M duties.
WHY CONSIDER RESCO?

Potential benefits for energy-intensive businesses

A well-structured RESCO project can help businesses access solar electricity while aligning investment and operational responsibilities with their goals.

Potentially Lower Initial Capital Outlay

In many RESCO arrangements, the developer funds the solar asset. Confirm exact payment obligations and any customer-side costs in the contract.

More Predictable Energy Costs

A PPA may set an agreed electricity tariff or pricing mechanism for a defined term, subject to the contract's conditions.

Defined Service Responsibilities

Operation, maintenance, monitoring and performance duties can be allocated contractually between the parties.

Focus on Core Operations

A suitable structure may let your team focus on business while the agreed provider manages specified solar-system duties.

Lower-Carbon Electricity

Using solar generation can reduce reliance on grid electricity and support your organisation's sustainability objectives.

Tailored to Your Facility

Assess rooftop, carport or ground-mounted options based on site suitability, consumption and applicable regulations.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT STRUCTURE

RESCO vs CAPEX solar

Both models can be useful. The right option depends on capital availability, ownership preferences, energy use and available contract terms.

RESCO Model

In a typical RESCO arrangement, a developer owns the solar asset and sells electricity to the customer under a contract such as a PPA.

CAPEX Model

The customer generally funds and owns the solar system, often using an EPC provider for design, procurement and construction.
